After-Christmas Shopping!

by @dm1n

I went to our local mall today and did a ton of shopping with the Christmas gifts friends and relatives gave me. How, you may ask? With gift cards and coupons! I got a ton of them for Christmas and for New Years, and I haven’t had the time to use them up until now. Such is the life of the busy designer and waitress. Oh my!

To the local mall, I went. In search of amazing goodies. I bought a lot of things at Best Buy, but not anything amazing. I wanted a 3DS and an iPad, but I definitely don’t have enough money for that. I’m hoping to get a credit card soon, though! That will help. I went into other stores where I had gift cards and coupons, like to Hot Topic with a gift card and Guess with my guess coupons. I purchased some clothes and cheap bead necklaces. I’m feeling like a fancy pants!

Thanks to everyone who gave me amazing Christmas gifts like the gift cards and coupons. I prefer getting those, than getting a gift that you aren’t sure I’ll like. At least this way I’m able to buy what I want from a particular store or outlet, so it works.

Career paths, yikes!

by @dm1n

So January is here, it’s now 2012. I can’t believe time is flying by so fast! How did you guys spend your Christmas, Hanuka or other holidays? How did you spend your New Years? I spent my New Years at home with my lovely, and my room mates. It was very casual and chill. We had a few drinks, watched some shows, had some nice food. It was all pretty casual and calm. But then we got to thinking about our careers.

What about your career? I was looking on Craigslist and other sites, not to mention looking at newspapers and such for career ideas. I saw entries for Medical Secretaries Jobs, and medical billing and coding people. But I wasn’t sure if that was the path for me. What’s your path? Have you figure it out yet? I haven’t figure out my path yet.

But it’s never too late to find out. You are never too old to try to figure out what you want, and you are never a failure if you decide to change who you are. Changes are good! With that, I’ll say “Peace Out” and enjoy my dinner.

Health insurance?

by @dm1n

So, I really need someone to explain to me how health insurance works. Not health insurance per se, but how stuff like government insurance works? I know that people in France and Canada, for example, get everything paid for. But how does American government health insurance work?

Why so many different names? I think they’re for different circumstances. I can’t even begin to understand how the different naming works! Like Medicare part D plans, for example. What’s the difference between D, and say A? Do old people have to pay for stuff? I think these are important things to be explained! I feel that when you’re born, you should get like some almighty, knowing being that you can just call or look over at and be like “Dude, what’s this mean?” And they’d explain it to you.

A lot of stuff now a days you have to fend for yourself, or if you’re in Miami, there are a lot of corrupt people. So they’ll tell you only what benefits them, to get your business. I wish there were some magical neutral person to help you with no matter what questions you have, or what situation you’re in.

And no, I’m not talking about God. Yeesh.

Zombies and hand-cutting?!

by @dm1n

My fiance and I never did get into the famous zombie show out there now, The Walking Dead. But since we had some free time last night, and the first season of the show is only six episodes (six episodes that are forty five minutes long each, that is!), we decided to watch the first three.

And this is where I learnt what cautery was. And boy, did I never want to learn what that word meant!

We went up to the part where they hand-cuffed the big guy with the big mouth and awful attitude to the pipe at the top of the building. And then when every body went back to save him, he had cut off his freakin’ hand. HIS HAND, MAN! HOLY CRAP.

I turned to my fiance and asked “How did he not bleed to death?” “Probably cauterized it.” “What?” “Cautery. The act of burning away and sealing blood and tissue.” I was in shock. And lo’ and behold, that’s exactly what the freak did. Holy crap.

I wouldn’t cut off my hand. Let the freakin’ zombies come, dammit.

Personalized Picture Frames

by @dm1n

I’ve been hard pressed to find a gift for my friend who is going to move to England for schooling. She’s dreamt about going to England to study since she was a kid, and now that she’s going, she’s been very nervous! I wanted to give her a cute, and unique gift, but something that would help her remember her dearest friends.

It was brought to my attention on Facebook that http://personalcreations.com has some lovely stuff for gifts. And indeed, they do! I fell in love with some of Personal Creations frames. I have to say that these are beautiful and unique frames! I’m not much for photos, well being in them. And since she’s a photography student, I have to say that some of these are perfect!

For example, the “I heart photo collages” one is super cute. Not to mention how wickedly cool the “Large photo vase” is! You can keep your photos *and* your flowers in them!

I’m sure Courtney will love some of these as going away presents. Time to start ordering!

Noob Cook. For Life.

by @dm1n

I’m an awful cook. Astoundingly awful. If I could burn water, I would. Just the other day, I tried to make breakfast for the hubs and I. I know it’s typical for a woman to be the chef of the house, and do all the cooking. But he’s a much better cook than I, and we both know it.

So when I wanted to make breakfast, it was a bit of a surprise. I spent about half an hour looking for the right cooking tools (I can’t find my way out of a paper bag!). I finally found the frying pan I wanted. Deciding to make egg sandwiches (eggs on toast, toast with mayo on it, delicious!), I let the pan heat up and dropped the egg in.

I waited. It was time to flip! Then, the egg wouldn’t budge. Holy crap, I forgot the oil. The egg was completely stuck to the bottom of the frying pan. Augh! I had to turn off the gas stove (which takes forever for the burners to light up, thanks to it being so damn old) and scrape off the egg into the trash. Wash the pan. And try again.

This time, with oil.

To think, that isn’t the first time I do something like that. You’d think I’d remember something so simple as oil?

Oh, shoes… How I want thee!

by @dm1n

First of all, forgive me for not posting in a bit! Also, I’m really sorry for the blog being offline a tiny bit, as well.

I lost all my posts due to a WordPress hacking on my previous host. I’m now hosted by a much better, more reputable company. I guess the saying is true- You get what you pay for. I was really disheartened to see almost two years of work, completely gone. ):

You know what’s also disheartening? Realizing you’ve never had boots. This is a ridiculous statement, of course. “How dare I never have had boots in my life”, sounds just dumb. But I love boots. I think they just look wonderful!

I’ve always wanted a pair (or three) of boots. We went to Sears (I forget why, now. I think just random shopping) and I fell in love with some ankle boots. Black, sleek, pointy-toed. Augh. Then I started looking at the other boots Sears had, like the riding boots, knee high boots, leather boots, fur-lined boots… I wish I could wear them!

Sad to say, that I have absolutely no balance. I couldn’t wear them even if I owned them. How sad is that?

… At the end of a long, long day. It’s really nice to unwind. Or pine for something.
